Bright Raven Gymnasts Compete in Regionals and Qualify for Nationals

Two members of the Bright Raven Gymnastics Team have qualified to advance to the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic Men’s National Championships. Both boys qualified for Nationals at the USAG Regional Championships held April 7 in Tinton Falls, New Jersey where they competed against gymnasts from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia in addition to New York. 13-year-old Ethan Rio of Avon competed in the Level 9 Junior Elite Division and placed sixth on high bar. Justin Ciccone of Greece competed in the 13-year-old division of Level 9 and took first place on floor exercise, second place on vault, third place on rings, third on parallel bars and second all around. Both Ciccone and Rio will travel to Kissimmee, Florida May 10-14 to compete in the National Championships.

13-year-old Cole Pringle of Pittsford competed as a Level 9 and earned second place on high bar and third place all around. Jake Scherbyn of Gates also competed as a Level 9 aiding the Bright Raven team to a sixth place finish.

Level 7/8 Gymnasts Win Gold at States

Four Bright Raven Gymnasts won gold at the USA Women’s Gymnastics Level 7/8 State Championships held in Suffern, New York March 31-April 2. In the Level 8 Senior B competition, 15-year-old Emily Field of Greece captured first place in the all-around competition, first in two events: floor exercise and uneven parallel bars and second on balance beam. 13-year-old Sydney Sack of Spencerport earned third place on the bars in the Level 8 Junior A division.

In the Level 7 Junior C competition, Kylie Rozzi, age 12, of Spencerport earned first place on vault and teammate Madison Isenberg of Brockport placed second on the uneven bars. In the Junior B competition, Madeline Pitts of Victor earned first place on vault, first on floor, second on balance beam and third all around. 14-year-old Naimah Muhammad of Rochester competed in the Senior B division taking first all around, first on vault, first on beam and second on both bars and floor. In the Child B division, Ashley Wood, age 10, of Henrietta placed second on vault, second on floor and third on balance beam. Abby Wilkins of Pittsford placed second on floor in the Senior D division. With 67 teams represented at the Championships, the Bright Raven Level 7 team finished in fifth place. Haley Bolon of Greece and Mollie Haus of Canandaigua also contributed to the Level 7 team effort.

Bright Raven Boys Win at State Meet

The Bright Raven Gymnastics Boys Teams had a strong showing at the 2017 USA Gymnastics New York State Championships held at SUNY Brockport March 18-19 emerging with 5 State Champions and two team banners.

All three of Bright Raven’s Level 9 competitors medaled resulting in a third place finish as a team. Justin Ciccone of Greece earned gold for his performance in floor exercise competition. Ethan Rio of Avon earned gold on high bar and silver on the parallel bars and Cole Pringle of Pittsford took the bronze in floor exercise.

In the Level 6 competition, Aiden Arena of Fairport was first on the pommels, second on high bar and third all around. Teammate Drew Ahlstrom of Gates took third place in floor exercise.

In the Level 5 competition, Connor Maguda of Henrietta took first place on pommels. Evan Gienau of Henrietta finished first in both floor exercise and rings and second in both high bar and all around competition.

The Bright Raven Level 4 team earned the 6th place team banner in a field of seventeen teams with 10-year-old Tyler Caballero of Chili placing third on both pommels and vault. In the 7-year-old division, Luke Sykora of North Chili placed third of vault also. Other Level 4 team members contributing to the team effort were Charlie Dovichi of Lima, Caleb Lantz of Henrietta, Lucas Post of Spencerport, Aidan Kelley of Holley and Jake Robbins of Webster.

Level 10 & XCel Bright Raven Gymnasts Win at State Meet

Bright Raven gymnasts competed in the Women’s USA Gymnastics Level 10 and Xcel State Championships held at SUNY Brockport March 17-19 earning gold and qualifying to represent New York State at Regionals.

15-year-old Madison Conn of Chili earned first place for her performance in the uneven parallel bar competition in the highest level of Junior Olympic competition. Conn competed in the Level 10 Junior B age division. Her high all-around score of 35.625 was good for sixth place and has qualified her to advance to USAG Level 10 Regionals to be held April 7-9 in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Bright Raven had five State Champions in the Xcel Competition. In the Xcel Platinum Senior B Division, Abbie Ainslie of Geneseo took first place on vault and Sydney DeVore of Pittsford was first on the uneven bars. DeVore also took second on vault and finished with a high all-around score of 36.75 qualifying her to compete in the Xcel Regional Championships to be held in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts May 20-21. In the Xcel Silver Senior B Division, Kaitlyn Gibble of Gates took first on balance beam and Kylie Willis of Greece was first on the uneven bars. Shiana Susa of Chili earned bronze on the uneven bars in the same division. Grace Huussen of Spencerport competed in the Xcel Silver Senior C Division and was first on the uneven bars.

Bright Raven Gymnastics Wins in Manhattan

The Bright Raven Gymnastics girl’s teams traveled to New York City January 28-29 to compete in the Manhattan Classic. Nearly 100 teams were represented from throughout the country at this USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic competition where Bright Raven finished first as a team in many divisions and took many top individual awards.

16-year-old Aneka Haber of Pittsford competed in the Level 9 Sr B division and took first place on both vault and the uneven parallel bars and finished second in the all-around competition.

The Level 7 team earned first place with team members dominating in the floor exercise competition. In the Jr A division, 10-year-old Ashley Woods of Henrietta took first place in floor. In the Jr B division, 11-year-old Jillian Ambler of Fairport was first on floor. In the Sr B division, Haley Bolan of Greece was first on floor and in the Sr A division, Madeline Pitts of Victor earned first place in floor, vault and beam and second in the all-around competition.

The Level 6 team finished in third place with Aliyah Gibson of Chili winning first place on vault and balance bean and finishing second all around. Katie Kull of Pittsford took first place in floor exercise in the Jr B division and Megan Robinson of Geneseo was second all around in the Sr A division.

Bright Raven’s Level 5 team took first place with Carly Liberman of Pittsford capturing first place all around and winning three events: uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise in the Sr A division. Teammate Sophia Daeschner of Spencerport was second all around in the same age group. In the Senior B division, Jessica Pelkey of Caledonia was second all around and finished first in both balance beam and floor exercise. Emily Post of Spencerport was third all around. In the Jr B division, Grace Gocher of Churchville was first on beam and Meredith Fingler of Chili was first on bars and second all around.

The Level 4 Team brought home the first place team banner with 9-year-old Kylie Montague of Avon winning first place on beam, floor and all around in the Jr B division. In the Jr C division,Camryn Trybuskiewicz of Honeoye Falls was first on bars and beam and tied with teammate Nyla Ragland of Spencerport for first all around. Morgan Sizer of West Henrietta was first on vault and third all around and Mia Perno of Chili took first on floor. In the Sr B division, 11-year-old Caroline Garbe of Webster was first all around and first in three events: vault, beam and floor. Teammate Katrina Daly of Spencerport was second all around in the same division.

Level 3 Team also took first making it a clean sweep for the Bright Raven compulsory level teams. In the Senior A division 9-year-old Heidi Tran of Gates was first on balance beam, floor exercise and all around. Hannah Prince of Spencerport was first on bars and second all around. In the Sr B division, Kailey Tran of Gates was first on vault and third all around. Alexis Gerig of Greece was third all around in the Jr B division. In the Jr A division 7-year-old Skylar Williamson of Chili took first place on vault.

Bright Raven Gymnasts Win Upstate Championships

Bright Raven gymnasts finished the season by bringing home first and third place team banners from the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic Upstate New York Championships held in Syracuse, May 20-22. The Bright Raven Level 3 team captured first place among 27 teams and the Level 4 team was third with 24 teams represented.

Many champions were named at this meet by taking first place in their respective divisions in individual events and all around competition. In the Level 3 meet, 11-year-old Baily Flynn of Churchville earned first place on vault, balance beam, floor exercise and all around in the Senior C Division. In the Senior D Division, Kylie Willis of Greece was first on vault and Katie Bradfield of Spencerport was first all around. In the Senior E Divison, Abby Pastorella of Spencerport was first on vault, beam, floor and all around and Jordan Robinson of Ogden was first on the uneven bars. Caroline Garbe of Webster took first place on balance beam, floor exercise and all around in the Senior B division. 9-year-old Mia Perno of Chili took first on vault and floor exercise in the Junior B Division. In the Junior C Division, Megan Sizer of West Henrietta took first all around and Nyla Ragland of Spencerport won first place on the uneven parallel bars and floor exercise. 10-year old Kailey Tran of Gates was first on vault in the Junior D Division. 8-year-old Kylie Montague of Avon earned first place on vault, bars, floor and all around in the Child E division and Heidi Tran of Gates was first on floor exercise in the Child D division.

Five Bright Raven Gymnasts earned gold medals in their respective divisions at the USA Gymnastics Level 5/6 State Championships held in Rochester May 13-15 at Monroe Community College. In the Level 6 competition, 16-year-old Haley Bolon of Greece took first place in floor exercise, third place on both the uneven parallel bars and balance beam and finished second all around. 13-year-old Naimah Muhammad of Rochester earned two gold medals for her performance in floor exercise and vault and also placed second all around. In the Level 5 Competition, 15-year-old Bailee Schirano of Spencerport earned first place on balance beam, and placed third in floor exercise. 12-year-old Madison Isenberg of Brockport earned first place on the uneven bars and Megan Robinson, age 11, of Geneseo won first on vault and placed third on floor. 10-year-old Carly Liberman of Pittsford took second place on beam, second on floor and third all around. 9-year-old Ashley Wood of Henrietta earned third place on balance beam and Katie Kull of Pittsford was third in floor exercise in the same division. The Bright Raven Level 5 team finished fifth as a team with 40 New York State Teams represented.

Bright Raven Gymnasts Compete in Junior Olympic Regionals

Bright Raven Gymnastics had both boys and girls qualify to advance in USA Gymnastics competition to Regional Championships this month. The boys traveled to Landover, Maryland April 1-3 where 15-year-old Jesse Underwood of Greece emerged as a three time State Champion winning first place in pommel horse, high bar and all around. He earned the silver medal for his performance on vault and parallel bars and the bronze for rings and floor exercise. In the 11-year-old Level 8 competition, Ethan Rio of Avon took second place on the parallel bars and third place on the high bar.

In the Level 7 competition for ages 11-12, Justin Ciccone of Greece earned second place in floor exercise and Cole Pringle of Pittsford earned third place on the parallel bars.

In the Level 10 competition, Matthew Blahyj of Webster earned a high all-around score of 79.00 finishing in seventh place and qualifying him to advance to National Competition to be held in Battle Creek, Michigan in May.

The boys competed in the Region 7 Championship which included gymnasts from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia in addition to New York. The girls competed in the Women’s USA Gymnastics Region 6 Championships which includes New York and the New England States.

The girls Level 7 and 8 gymnasts competed in Northborough, Massachusetts April 16-17 where 11-year-old Madeline Pitts of Victor earned the title of State Champion on vault and finished second on floor exercise in the Level 7 competition. Jada Moore of Gates, Bailey Chudner of Victor and Emily Field of Greece competed in the Level 8 Regional Championships each making a strong showing. Jada earned fourth place on vault. Bailey Chudner was fourth on the uneven parallel bars and Emily Field took fourth on balance beam.

The Level 9 gymnasts traveled to Springfield, Massachusetts April 8-10 where 16-year-old Annika Haber of Pittsford placed third on vault and 14-year-old Madison Conn of Gates was fourth on vault.

Bright Raven Gymnasts are Level 7/8 State Champs

Bright Raven Gymnastics of Gates traveled to Suffern, New York April 1-3 to compete in the 2016 Level 7/8 USA Gymnastics State Meet where four team members emerged as champions in their respective divisions.

In the Level 8 Junior D competition, 13-year-old Jada Moore of Gates earned first place on vault and also placed second in floor exercise. In the Jr E division, Bailey Chudner, age 14 of Victor placed third on vault, uneven parallel bars and all around. Emily Field of Greece was third on balance beam in the same division. 12-year-old Sydney Sack of Spencerport placed third in floor exercise in the Child Division.

In the Level 7 Child D competition, 11-year-old Madeline Pitts of Victor was named a three time State Champion, finishing first on vault, balance beam and floor exercise. In all around competition, Madeline finished in third place. 12-year-old Kylie Rozzie of Spencerport finished in first place in floor exercise in the Junior A Division. In the Senior C Division, 14-year old Cameron Kull of Pittsford was first in floor exercise and third on balance beam. Abby Wilkins of Pittsford earned second place on the uneven parallel bars and third in floor exercise in the Senior D division.

Four of these Bright Raven Team members have qualified to advance to the Level 7/8 Regional Championships by earning high all around scores at the State Meet. Jada Moore, Bailey Chudner, Emily Field and Madeline Pitts will travel to Northborough, Massachusettes later this month to compete against gymnasts from the New England States in addition to New York.

Karl Jaanimagi Named Gymnastic Coach of the Year

CoachKarlJaanimagi2016Bright Raven Gymnastics Boys Team Coach Karl Jaanimagi was named the 2016 New York State Men’s Gymnastics Coach of the Year at the USA Gymnastics State Championships held March 18-20 at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY. In Coach Karl’s first season at Bright Raven, he has led the Boys team to twenty-three team awards including seven first place finishes. Bright Raven also had ten individual state champions in 2016 and the top Level 7 team in the State. Graduating senior Matt Blahyj (McQuaid Jesuit) was recognized as the highest scoring senior gymnast in the state and was awarded the Joseph Chichetti Memorial Scholarship. Bright Raven also had eight boys advance to compete in the Regional Championships in Landover, Maryland April 1-3 also bringing home numerous awards. Coach Karl has previously been recognized as a two-time New York State Service Award recipient and was named the 2013 USA Gymnastics National Collegiate Club Coach of the Year for his work with the SUNY Brockport Men’s Gymnastics Team.
